It's not your typical day at school when paratroopers start landing in the yard. The United States is suddenly invaded by Soviet and Cuban troops. In Colorado, high school students Matt (Charlie Sheen), Toni (Jennifer Grey), and Erica (Lea Thompson) rush home where their parents give them rifles and supplies and tell them to hide out in the mountains until it's over. But when it seems the invasion is here to stay, some of the students decide to fight back. Calling themselves the "Wolverines", after their high school team mascot, they are led by Jed (Patrick Swayze) and his brother Robert (C. Thomas Howell). While all the adults are kept in prisoner camps, the young rebels stage guerilla attacks against the enemy while they wait for help to arrive.
